BIOGRAPHY

Francesc Prat is a conductor and composer who has an open-minded approach to music and who divides his time between symphonic repertoire, opera and contemporary music, which he is especially drawn to. This interest has earned him a place on today´s music scene, particularly in Switzerland and Spain, where he has been asked to conduct at events as diverse as the Lucerne Festival, the Basel Composition Competition, ArtBasel, the Berlinale and the Sonar Festival in Barcelona.

In the field of opera, he has been an assistant to English director Ivor Bolton at the Teatro Real in Madrid, where he made his debut in March 2016 directing a performance of Das Liebesverbot of Wagner. He has also worked at Theater Basel, Dutch National Opera, Neuköllner Opera Berlin, Teatro de la Zarzuela and Teatre Lliure in Barcelona. He has recently directed Die Zauberflöte at the Theater Basel i Diàlegs de Tirant by Magrané at the Liceu and the Peralada Festival. He has also worked at the DutchNational Opera or the Teatro de la Zarzuela.

Francesc Prat habitually collaborates with many of the orchestras he has worked with, having conducted the Sinfonieorchester Basel, Basel Sinfonietta, Nederlands Kamerorkest, the RTV Ljubljana Symphony Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Community of Madrid Orchestra, the Madrid Symphony, the Balearic Island Symphony and the Orquestra de Cambra de l'Illa de Menorca

As a composer, his catalog mainly includes chamber music and works for ensemble, which have been awarded in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Austria. In October 2012, he premiered his first opera in Basel and in 2020 he wrote a monodrama premiered at the Liceu.

He began his musical training at the Escolania de Montserrat choir school. He continued his studies in oboe, piano and theory at the Conservatori Superior de Música in Barcelona. He later graduated in oboe at the Musikhochschule Luzern, in composition at the Hochschule für Musik Basel/ Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel, and in conducting at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.
