Born in Lithuania and internationally sought after as a guest conductoras, she has worked with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Orchestra, Bruckner Orchester Linz, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Wiener Symphoniker, Staatskapelle Dresden, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de chambre de Paris, RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, MDR-Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. After her engagement as 1st Kapellmeister at Stadttheater Klagenfurt 2016-18 Giedrė Šlekytė conducted opera productions in Leipzig, Zurich, Antwerp, Frankfurt and at the Salzburg Festival.
Symphonic engagements and re-invitations lead her this season to the Munich Philharmonic, Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester, Staatskapelle Weimar, Bochumer Symphoniker, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Tiroler Festspiele Erl and – in her new position as principal guest conductor – to the Bruckner Orchester Linz.
Giedrė Šlekytė is a prize winner of the "International Malko Competition for Young Conductors" in Copenhagen and received the 2nd prize at the International Conducting Competition Solon Michaelides 2013 in Cyprus (1st prize not awarded). In March 2015 she was nominated for the Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award and in 2018 as "Newcomer of the year" at the International Opera Awards.
