Josep Maria Guix
Josep Maria Guix (Reus, 1967) studied Art History at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Music Theory and Composition at the Conservatory of Badalona, electronic music at the Phonos Foundation (Barcelona) and music computing at the 'IRCAM (Paris). He has received classes and advice from Benet Casablancas, David Padrós, Joan Guinjoan, José Manuel López López and Jonathan Harvey.
He has been awarded several times: X International Composition Prize “Ciutat d'Alcoi” (Spain, 1995), SGAE Young Composers Award (Spain, 2000), Innovamusica Competition (Andorra, 2008), Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award (USA, 2010), I International Competition “Festa de la Música Coral” (Barcelona, 2015), Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra call for scores (Los Angeles, 2018).
His teaching work in Barcelona has focused on IES Pedralbes, the Conservatori Superior del Liceu, Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and the International University of Catalonia (UIC). From 2007 to 2011, he was artistic director of the “Nous Sons” Festival at L'Auditori (Barcelona). The 2018-19 season has been a guest composer at the Palau de la Música Catalana. His music has been recorded by Neu Records.
