Magdalena Barrera Oro
BIOGRAPHY
Magdalena Barrera Oro (Buenos Aires) has been the harp soloist of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra since 1987. She studied at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory in her hometown under the tutelage of Maria Esther Moro, during that time she obtained her degree on Music teacher specializing in harp. Granted a scholarship by the Teatro Colón Foundation, she studied a master's degree at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam and delved into the orchestral repertoire with Vera Badings. She performed recitals as a soloist or with chamber music groups in The Netherlands, France, Argentina and Spain; as well as a soloist with the Teatre Lliure Chamber Orchestra, the Basque Country Orchestra, the Spanish National Orchestra and the Ottawa National Center Orchestra (Canada), among others.
She also recorded two harp and orchestra concerts by Alberto Ginastera and Xavier Montsalvatge. By this second composer, she has also recorded the Fantasy for guitar and orchestra and the Four Variations for harp. In the pedagogical field, both JONC and JONDE invite her regularly and she is currently a teacher at ESMUC.
