Marco Mezquida is one of the most brilliant and promising appearances on the music scene of the peninsula in decades. He has been chosen Musician of the Year four times by the Association of Jazz and Modern Musicians of Catalonia, has presented his solo piano concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana, a privilege reserved for long-distance pianists and has been convened for an endless list of top artists to perform cds and concerts around the world.
Born in Menorca in 1987, he graduated at ESMUC in 2009 and since then has recorded more than 50 albums with the best musicians of the country. He has performed in major auditoriums and iconic jazz clubs around the world, and has presented his projects at festivals in 30 countries across Europe, North and South America, Asia and North Africa.
Highlights include his projects Chicuelo & Marco Mezquida, Marco Mezquida & The Dreams of Ravel, MAP (Mezquida-Aurignac-Prats), his Danish trio Pieris (Mezquida-Bodilsen-Andersen), his duets with Silvia Pérez Cruz, Celeste Alías, Alfonso Vilallonga, Sol Picó, Pablo Selnik, Manel Fortià, Albert Bover… and his solo piano concerts where he enhances all his aesthetic and creative freedom as an improviser and composer.
He has composed and recorded music for 4 theatrical productions between 2015-2017, 2 of them successful and award-winning directed by Julio Manrique. He has recorded music for several shorts and for Catalan television (Jazz a l'Estudi) and has performed as a solo pianist with classical orchestras and jazz big bands. A dozen awards (Altaveu 2015, 2 Enderrock awards, 4 years Musician of the Year for the AMJM of Catalonia, etc.) mark his dazzling musical career that combines with teaching at Conservatori Superior del Liceu in Barcelona and at Escola Superior d'Estudis Musicals.
