Marta Mathéu


Gifted with a deep sense of musicality and an unquestionable mastery of its instrument, Marta Mathéu is now collecting the fruits of a solid career. Her Bach’s performances under the direction of Jordi Savall in different European settings (including the Philharmonie in Paris) have been praised. The Tenor Viñas contest (Gran Teatre del Liceu) awarded her Mozart interpretations, and she has recently included in her repertoire capital roles from Puccini, Rossini and Wagner’s operas.

As a Spanish music performer, her recording in the leading role (Francina) of the Song of love and war by Rafael Martínez Valls, the first complete one starring Montserrat Caballé in 1964. In addition, she maintains a constant lieder activity in the company of pianists such as Albert Guinovart, who accompanied Victòria dels Àngels in her recitals. In the symphonic field and the oratorio, he has performed, among many other scores, Beethoven's Ninth and Mahler's Second under batons such as Gustavo Dudamel and Victor Pablo Pérez. Throughout his career he has also acted directed by Antoni Ros Marbà, Neville Marriner and Fabio Biondi. He trained with Ana Luisa Chova, Montserrat Caballé, Elena Obraztsova and Wolfram Rieger. He has sung on some of the most prominent stages in the world, including the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Teatro Real, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Philharmonie in Paris and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. His musical training began as a pianist and organist.

In addition to the Francesc Viñas Contest (2008, Mozart’s Best Performer Award, Best Spanish Performer Award and Audience Award, among others), she has been awarded by Joventudes Musicales d’Espanya, and in international competitions Manuel Ausensi and Montserrat Caballé (Audience Award). In 2011, the City Council of Tarragona awarded her the Diploma in Cultural Merit for her international career and the role of ambassador of her hometown. She currently is a member of the Senate of Tarragona.

Mathéu has recorded for Alia Vox, KLASSIC, Brilliant, Naxos and Opus Art and has been a teacher of Singing in the Liceu Conservatory since 2014.
