Matthias Pintscher is the Music Director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the world’s leading contemporary music ensemble founded by P. Boulez. Known equally as one of today’s foremost composers, Pintscher will conduct the premiere of his new work for baritone, chorus, and orchestra, performed by G. Nigl and the Chorus and Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks at their Musica Viva festival in February 2020.

With the Ensemble Intercontemporain (EIC) in 2019/20, Pintscher premieres new works by B. Furrer, P-Y. Macé, J. B. Borowski, C. Iannotta, and others. Other projects include bringing the large-scale audiovisual work From Within, created by M. Nikodijevic and R. Henke and premiered by the EIC in June 2018, to the BOZAR in Brussels, and joining the EIC in a residence at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin.

Conducting highlights have included projects with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland, Dallas Symphony and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras as well as with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Mariinsky Orchestra, Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Radio Symphonie Orchester Wien and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen as well as an extensive international touring with the Ensemble Intercontemporain. In addition, Matthias has also appeared as guest conductor with the NDR Hamburg, Danish Radio Symphony, Finnish Radio Symphony, Sydney Symphony and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras. In addition, Matthias was Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Artist in Residence and Tonhalle Creative Chair for the 18/19 season.

He is a prolific composer whose works are performed worldwide by important orchestras and artists. Last season, A. Weilerstein and the Boston Symphony Orchestra premiered their cello concert An awakening, and in April 2017 the world premiere of Shirim for baritone and orchestra with Danish singer B. Skovhus and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. He has also been a teacher at the Juilliard School since 2014 and his publications appear in the publishing house Bärenreiter-Verlag.
