Pekka Kuusisto
BIOGRAPHY
Violinist, conductor and composer Pekka Kuusisto stands out for his artistic freedom and his innovative vision of the repertoire. Widely recognized for his talent in orchestral conducting, Kuusisto is artistic director of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and artistic partner of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He is also a collaborating member of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and an artistic friend of the Bremen German Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra. During the 21-22 season he is the guest artist of the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Advocate of new music, Kuusisto's upcoming releases include new concerts by Bryce Dessner, Djuro Zivkovic, Thomas Adès and Enrico Chapela and chamber works by Sauli Zinovjev and Calliope Tsoupaki. He also performs the concerts that Daniel Bjarnason, Anders Hillborg and Nico Muhly have written for him. Kuusisto's latest recordings include concerts by Thomas Adès, Anders Hillborg, Daníel Bjarnason, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Sebastian Fagerlund and Johann Sebastian Bach.
