She is the first conductor in South Korea to make the leap to conducting internationally renowned orchestras. When J. Levine appointed her assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2007, she was already one of the most captivating emerging talents on the world music circuit. Shortly before, she had won the Sir Georg Solti International Directors Competition and the Gustav Mahler Directors Competition in Bamberg. During her three years in Boston, she started a close collaboration with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and, in 2007, she conducted its inaugural concert. In 2009, the orchestra created a position of associate conductor especially for her, which she held until 2013.

The list of orchestras she has worked with since then is remarkable. It includes prestigious European orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic and Radio France Philharmonic, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Washington National Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra or Los Angeles Philharmonic with whom she debuted conducting a spectacular concert with M. Argerich at the Tongyeong International Music Festival in South Korea. In addition, she has performed as a guest conductor at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Stockholm Opera. Her debut with the symphonies of Utah, Atlanta, Antwerp, Stavanger and Oviedo Philharmonia will be highlights of this 2020-2021 season, during which she will also conduct the Seattle Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Born in Busan, South Korea, she won several awards as a pianist in youth competitions. From 2001 to 2006, she studied orchestral conducting with R. Reuter at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin and continued her education of advanced conducting studies with J. Panula at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
